January is glaucoma awareness month! Did you know that glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in Canada? Glaucoma is the build up of pressure caused by a backup of fluid in the eye. This pressure can lead to loss of nerve tissue that results in gradual irreversible vision loss and blindness of not detected and treated early. Age, family history, medical conditions, physical injury and severe trauma to the eye are all risk factors.
